Shenandoah Chinchilla Ranch

Canaan, Connecticut

This is a very rare lot of chinchilla postcards. I once saw one on eBay, but the seller was trying to pawn off a common gray squirrel instead of a chinchilla. I cannot find anything at all of any substance on this ranch. I'm not sure of the age of these cards as I'm not familiar with dating postcards of this sort, but suspect they are from the 1960s or earlier.

On each divided back card it states they are from the Shenandoah Chinchilla Ranch, Canaan, Connecticut. The chinchilla on the log apparently has a name, "Old Bachelor." On the backs of the cards, published by Ashville Post Card Co., Ashville, N.C. it states that the ranch is on "U.S. Route No. 7, two Miles South of Canaan, Conn. Famous for fine breeding stock. Visitors Welcome. Open the year round."
